What do you think being creative means?
Being creative means to act in a way that improves yours and other people’s lives, it means that you solve everyday problems or challenges with your own mind, based not only on your experience or education but also using your inventive character and instinct. It means to be able to combine the history with the future. It means not to be afraid to try but also to use new ways to approach situations, problems and challenges even if these are already being characterized as “solved”. It means to be patient and sometimes stubborn. It means to be a “restless spirit”.
How do you include creativity in your life?
When I understood my engineering skills, I worked very hard for many years to improve them. Creativity came through this hard work. Then I tried to include creativity in my profession, in my family life, in my hobbies and in my relations with people. And that is about 80% of my life. Doing research, reading, thinking, and using my imagination and knowledge enabled me to act in a creative mode.
What are your thoughts on how your life has influenced your creative imagination, and how your creative imagination has influenced your life?
My early years influenced my creative imagination a lot. I grew up in a poor family in the country. The everyday contact with nature and the fact that I had to work hard with my family in their farming activities helped me very much to develop creative skills. Creativity can be born easier if you don’t have a life of luxury. My passion for reading, school and education helped me a lot to understand my talents as well.
Being also a Greek gave me the advantage to learn the history and the accomplishments of the ancient Hellenic period and understand that creativity is in my blood.
The following years in university and later in my family life were also very important as I had to improve the level of my life and to find ways to overcome a lot of problems and to face a lot of challenges. Creativity helped very much in this. Accordingly my life has been influenced by these skills as through creativity I managed to accomplish most of my goals and finally make the cube invention which changed my life.
What, if any, exercises do you do to get into a creative mode?
Spending time with my wife and my family, reading, diving, playing with mind games and puzzles, working in my garden and dreaming keeps me in a creative mode most of the time!
How important do you think creativity is in life?
If you do not want to make your life boring you should include creativity. If you want to differentiate yourself you should think and act with creativity. If you want to be able to interact with interesting and wise people then creativity will show you the way to find them. If you want your children and wife to admire you, then you should treat them with creativity. If you want to add a “small stone” to society and history you will achieve it with creativity.
