What do you think being creative means?
To be creative today one needs great clarity and dialogue within oneself. Creativity is like a chemical reaction, which is triggered only if you “open” the necessary channels within yourself to raise your emotions and let everything translate into a feeling, a vision, a gesture. To be creative is to perceive something, to feel it/see it as real even if it doesn’t exist. And then having the tools to make it visible to everyone.
How do you include creativity in your life?
My life is like a gust of creativity, similar to that which moves the fallen leaves on the ground at the beginning of a beautiful autumn. Every day, every thought or action is invaded by this light but dense wind that makes me see everything differently. Different is that adjective I love to attach to everything I do. Mostly because I feel it is authentic, and I feel that unintentionally every action of mine would be different from what I, for better or worse, feel as obvious or taken for granted.
What are your thoughts on how your life has influenced your creative imagination, and how your creative imagination has influenced your life?
As a child, I was always alone. No other children lived in my neighborhood, and schoolmates never asked to play together in their free time. In my room I lived in my own world of games and lots of drawings. In that world I was protected by a strong loneliness. Although unaware of what it meant I believe that that state of living led me to grow that “creative” seed within me. Today all this remains, and continues to fuel my days that continue to be pervaded by strong inspirations so much so that everything I experience is singular.
What, if any, exercises do you do to get into a creative mode?
I do not perform any particular exercises. I live each day by listening to the input that comes in, to the people I listen to, to memories, to various thoughts. Listening has always been and remains my most valuable working tool.
How important do you think creativity is in life?
Without creativity my life would be that of another Giordano. I could not exist in this way without it. Genuine creativity is precious. It is a privilege to have it as a travelling companion.
